Memorials for the long time HMSA starter, Chuck Weinstein, have been taking place at most tracks that Chuck held close to his heart. AFRS has been instrumental in honoring Chucks last wishes to visit these tracks one last time.

AFRS says good by, with a heavy heart, to Capt Gary McBride. Capt. McBride has been an integral part of AFRS for the past 18 years and will be missed by those who have worked with him and shared many hours ‘in the truck’.
AFRS wishes Capt. McBride all the best in the future. He will be missed!

AFRS and Rescue 1 was a strong presence at the recent NHRA event. AFRS brings a level of excellence to events that is unmatched.

The AFRS crew worked with great care and concern while extricating both driver and instructor from a 2005 Honda following an incident at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. The driver stated that speeds were approaching 110 mph at the time. Both parties were treated by Kern County ambulance at the scene
after a 22 minute extracation of the instructor. The driver was able to crawl out of the rear window. One of the parties was taken via ambulance to a local hospital for observation.

AFRS is proud to announce that 5 of it members have passed the requirements enabeling them to receive their bars. This is a big step for the AFRS members and they are to be congratulated.

During the recent NHRA event at Las Negas Motorspeedway, one lucky couple shared wedding vows and were escorted via helicopter on a Grand Canyon tour. AFRS held standby just in case either party changed their mind, mid flight!

Capt Sanford and Firefighter Keehne were on a field movie shoot using a machine gun to blow up this van. A very spectacular fire ball was the result. AFRS was on hand to make sure that no one was injured and were included in the movie, putting out the van fire.

Capt. McBride used the Amkus Heavy Duty Cutters while Fire Fighters provide medical aid until an ambulance arrived. Congratulations to AFRS recovery specialists for all the dedicated hours.
An incident at Pomona, recently, AFRS was on hand when a driver went into the beach thru the first catch net. AFRS assisted the SAFETY SAFARI and was on scene for the defueling of this dragster.

Las Vegas Motor Speedway hosted the first POC event of 2009 on the Rovaland. Boxter "BOB" didn't fare as well as hoped. The incident happened at the turn in point where the Oval meets the inside portion of the road course.
AFRS cleared the incident with their expert crew and racing resumed for the intrepid drivers who braved the rain.
AFRS was called out around 1100 hours on Monday to the City of San Fernando for fire stand-by to address spot fires caused by burning embers from the Marek Fire in Southern California.
A strike team of three rescue units and water tender remand on scene until 0700 hours Tuesday morning. As of 0830 hours the fire was at 70% contained.

AFRS is always a strong presence at the NASCAR Truck Series races in Las Vegas. This year was no exception. The crew this year included Capt Craig Sanford and pictured from left to right:

AFRS team members traveled to Reno-Fernley Raceway, giving excellent coverage for the Reno Memorial HMSA races.
AFRS,once again, was a strong supporter of the annual
Antelope Valley Fair and Saugus Car Show. Members of the AFRS team continue to provide community information and support in all areas of safety.

Adam Walker graduated from LA City Drill Tower 40 and he will be going to Fire Station 11 in the MacAurther Park Area of LA.
All these folks are just a hand full of past AFRS employees to move on to the BIG HOUSE!

AFRS just returned from one of the annual MKM Road Races at Battle Mountain Nevada. The AFRS team continually faces the challenges of the open road races and ensures that all participants, cars, and spectators are safe. AFRS wishes to thank the Battle Mountain Fire Dept, Battle Mountain Ambulance Company & Sheriff Ron Unger for the additional support and considerations.
